Amulets of protection give a bonus to PV. The typical bonus is +2, though values from -1 to +5 have been noted.
When unidentified, an amulet of protection always appears as a "silver amulet".
Desirability[]
If they are found early in the game, they offer a significant and (more importantly) easily identifiable boost to survivability. Later in the game, the special properties of artifacts outstrip the benefit of 2 points of PV. The ankh especially is strictly a better, and indestructible, item.
