Anvils are one of the items required to use the Smithing skill.

Desirability[]

Smithing can be trained without an anvil, but all players who are interested in the benefits the skill offers will eventually need to obtain one, along with a forge and hammer (large hammer or warhammer). Characters that do not wish to smith may still find them useful to throw at doors to smash them, but they are extremely heavy, and thus rarely worth the space just for that. Note that anvils thrown at doors will safely ignore any traps, but there's a risk that the anvil itself will be destroyed. Thus, Weaponsmiths should not throw their anvils.

Guaranteed/Common sources[]

They can be generated in the same manner as all generic loot, but are extremely rare.

There are two guaranteed anvils in the game, however: one held by Glod and the other by Kherab. Additionally, all Weaponsmiths start the game with an anvil.
