Bracers of toughness ( ~ )
Item347
Item Type Bracers
Artifact? No
Weight 10s
Danger Level 2
Material Wood

Bracers of toughness modify your Toughness, usually by four. Values as low as 1 and as high as 11 have been observed, but deviations get progressively rarer - values above seven and below four are extremely unlikely. See testing in the "Common Stats" section below.

They will always appear as bone bracers when unidentified, making identification trivial.

DesirabilityEdit

Since the toughness increase usually translates into a significant gain in hit points and, if toughness is increased beyond 20, PV, these are very nice to have. Since they cannot be smithed and are very vulnerable to item destruction, they will usually be replaced, often involuntarily. Still, the gains are significant enough that many players will keep wearing them, especially if other, better bracers refuse to show up.

Guaranteed/Common SourcesEdit

Same as all other loot. Druids will receive a set of bracers of toughness for completing the Kill Keethrax quest.

Greater Identify informationEdit

----------------- uncursed bracers of toughness [+0, +0] {To+4}----------------

When used in melee combat it grants a +0 bonus to hit and causes 1d1 points of
damage. When used as a missile it grants a +0 bonus to hit and causes 1d1
points of damage.

It modifies your toughness attribute by +4.

Common StatsEdit

Ascyron's first testEdit

Ascyron tested the common stats of bracers of toughness by wishing for them 1000 times with a level 50 character while in a danger level five environment. Here are the results of that test:

Toughness Boost # of bracers % Chance
1 10 1.0%
2 6 0.6%
3 10 1.0%
4 858 85.8%
5 32 3.2%
6 47 4.7%
7 37 3.7%

Ascyron's second TestEdit

Ascyron did further testing on the stats of bracers of toughness by wishing for them ~100,000 times with a level 50 character while in a danger level one environment. Here are the results of that test:

Toughness Boost # of bracers % Chance
1 876 0.9%
2 984 1.0%
3 1088 1.1%
4 85572 85.7%
5 4098 4.1%
6 3638 3.6%
7 3540 3.5%

As you can see, the results are almost exactly the same as in his first test - only a few percentage points of difference, well within the margin of error for a test of that size.

When viewed in conjunction with Houeland's data (see below) it would appear that in higher danger level areas more variations can be expected, as his tests show only a 69.7% chance of a +4 pair of bracers, while Ascyron's show a consistent 85% across the board. Houeland's tests show higher percentages of both higher and lower modifiers, with approximately double the chance of a set not being +4.

As well as there appearing to be a higher chance of varied modifiers in high DL environments, it also appears that it is impossible to gain +8 through +11 bracers while in a low DL environment.

Houeland's testsEdit

Houeland has also done extensive testing by wishing for bracers of toughness, the results of his tests can be found on houeland's bracers of toughness test results page.

Note that it is currently unsure what version of ADOM he was using, the danger level his tests were preformed in, or the level of the character that preformed the tests.
