Ratling master thief is a type of monster in ADOM. Ratling master thieves generally start to appear around the mid-game or earlier, and are occasionally found in the High Mountain Village. They are the advanced form of ratling thieves that can steal large amounts of gold from the PC whilst in melee range, and always punch through armor. They are still weak and frail compared to other monsters of a similar danger level.

All gold stolen by a monster is carried by that monster and can be reclaimed by killing it, except (as of 1.2.0) when it disappears, as indicated by the message "The (monster) chuckles with hateful glee as the god of thieves immediately takes his share!"

As criminals, ratling thieves and master thieves are chaotic (although ratlings are usually neutral).

Special abilities[]

Common stats[]

Level: 1, DV: 26, PV: 3, Hits: 28, Attacks: 1, Damage: 5-8. Speed: 100.

Corpse effects[]

Eating most ratlings cause PCs of most races to vomit, thus giving them minimal satiation. Orcs and trolls can eat them without vomitting, thus receiving considerably more satiation.

Monster memory[]

Collective

Unlike their amateur colleagues, these ratlings have mastered the art of thieving to perfection. Their elegant silver tunic in combination with a soft voice and well-bred accent are bound to give the impression of a wealthy, upper-class gentleman (or gentlewoman). You'd never suspect where all their jewelry came from. They will engage you in civilized conversation until you could swear to their nobility and trustworthiness. But watch out! Don't turn your back on them, or you will find their manicured paws deep in your backpack.

Females only

In all the plays of rogues and thieves who take their mastery so far that they eventually are skillful enough to steal an entire castle, she would always play the starring role. She moves with unsurpassable stealth that is aided by her small size. Her thin clawed hands can enter cracks too narrow for the wrists of any other humanoid. For her, you're but a training dummy.
