Quickling king is a type of monster in ADOM. They have immense speed, allowing them to take about ten more turns than most monsters. They are slightly stronger than other quicklings, and can shoot tiny quarrels (although these are not very powerful). Since they can attack a large number of times and move out of the PC's way in the same turn, and their attacks always penetrate armor, they are extreme nuisances and even dangerous in the late game.

Quickling kings tend to stay out of the way of bolt spells, and if they manage to survive being hit by one, their rapid regeneration combined with their immense speed makes damage they suffer almost inconsequential. They are usually best dealt with with high radius ball spells or mindcraft, since they can't easily avoid these.

Although their monster memory description says they are the fastest of the quicklings, quickling queens are actually faster (as is the unique quickling bard).

Special abilities[]

Common stats[]

Level: 1, DV: 50, PV: 0, Hits: 10, Attacks: 1, Damage: 3-6. Speed: 1000.

Corpse effects[]

Eating a quickling king increases the PC's speed between 0 and 6 points, but also reduces their maximum age by 20%. PC's with low speed are much more likely to receive a larger bonus than those with high speed and vice versa. At PC speed 150, speed increases of 3-4 are common. Eating quickling kings with speed values over 190 often results in no speed increase.

This can be a good trade-off for PCs of longer-lived races, but somewhat risky for short-lived races, especially if relying on potions of longevity to increase maximum age. PCs will not die of old age until they reach the 'very old' age category, even if their "maximum" age is below that.

Monster memory[]

Fastest of the quicklings, the kings of this race are also the strongest of arm and body, in spite of emaciated figure and diminutive size. These kings rule with their own justice, swift and strong.
