Amulets of protection from undead prevent instant death from hearing the banshee's wail - the player takes 20d15 damage instead.
It does not reliably protect against the special attacks of certain undead. On test, character (with lowish DV) put a blessed amulet on and stood next to a hostile ghul. Despite having 5000 HP the char was instantly paralyzed and never woke up. That summarizes the amulet's effect against paralysis attack.
When unidentified, it always appears as a "bone amulet".
If the PC dies to the wail while wearing one, a special message will be displayed.
Desirability[]
Not very useful, considering a means to deafen the PC (and thus take zero damage from the wail) is guaranteed prior to the banshee level.
