Large hammers are a basic type of one-handed weapon belonging to the Clubs and Hammers weapon group.
Large hammers made of iron have typical melee stats of (-1, 1d10+2), while large eternium hammers have typical melee stats of (-1, 2d10+10). Large hammers are never generated with prefixes or suffixes.
Desirability[]
Large hammers are more powerful than other types of generic one-handed weapons; large hammers made of iron are thus quite useful in the early game, and large eternium hammers can be useful later in the game (if better artifact or special weapons can't be found). Compared to less powerful weapons, the only downsides of using large hammers is that they are somewhat heavy, and that they give little bonuses to hit chance through the weapon class and the direct penalty.
Large hammers can be also be useful for smithing. If the PC is carrying a large hammer solely for this purpose and is unconcerned with its performance as a weapon, an equivalent warhammer may be preferred since those are lighter to carry.
Guaranteed/Common Sources[]
They can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot. Human and trollish Weaponsmiths start out with a large hammer made of iron.
