Climbing sets are required to climb mountains and the Rift. If you attempt to enter the rift without a climbing set, you will automatically fall to the bottom, most likely suffering major equipment damage on the way.
Cursed climbing sets can fail in the middle of climbing. This can be fatal. Uncurse them, or leave them be in favor of uncursed ones.
Desirability[]
They are necessary to players attempting to enter the northwestern section of the map, containing the Rift, the Tomb of the High Kings, the Minotaur Maze, the Ancient Stone Circle and the Scintillating Cave. They are also needed to reach the Library from inside the rift. Since obtaining the Ring of the High Kings is the preferred method to pass the eternal guardian, every player will want to obtain a climbing set eventually.

They can be generated in the same manner as all generic loot.
It is possible to buy climbing sets from the Ratling dealer located at the bottom of the rift. There are various guaranteed climbing sets generated in the game, one in the Gremlin cave and one in the Pyramid. Occasionally they can be found lying around in Dwarftown. Possibly one is generated there every time, but will often be picked up by one of the residents before the player can reach them.
