Hawkslayer, the burly adventurer, is an NPC found in the High Mountain Village. He is a somewhat mysterious man who — as implied by the monster memory and by his own dialogue with non-chaotic PCs — is believed to have met the PC before.

If the PC is at level 25 or higher, and is either lawful or neutral, when chatted to Hawkslayer will ask him/her for their codename — which the player will be asked to type in. The player will figure this out if the PC drinks from pools until they hear a voice calling them something. If the correct codename is input, Hawkslayer will 'remember' the PC and thus become his/her companion. If the PC is chaotic, Hawkslayer will not talk to him/her at all.

Hawkslayer is quite strong and hardy, and can shoot eternium arrows. The PC would generally be better off having him on their side rather than as an opponent... unless they wish to heavily milk him for some valuable ammunition. Chaos Knights should note that Hawkslayer *really* hates the forces of evil — he will attack chaotic Chaos Knights if they just chat with him.

If the PC falls to chaotic alignment after recruiting him, Hawkslayer will turn hostile to the PC. In this state he has no qualms about killing innocent NPCs that get in his way.

Monster memory[]

A stout man with a large brown beard dressed in old and battle-worn leather armor. An old but well-polished blade hangs from his girdle. His frame is very muscular and his moves prove his experience from endless adventures. This muscular man eyes his surroundings with a careful gaze while at the same time displaying a boasting sense of humor due to a very special twinkle in his eyes. Somehow this man seems to be familiar...

Trivia[]

Hawkslayer is likely a reference to the Hawkslayer from The Bard's Tale series. Being a time traveler, his "having met you before" is a reference to how he time travels in those games, and meets the party in disjointed continuity.
