Karmic creatures are a special kind of monster in ADOM. They are notorious for the ability to reduce the Luck of a character attacking them in melee. Whenever the player does that, there is a chance the first item from the following list that would result in a change to intrinsics will occur:
- Losing the "fate smiles" intrinsic
- Losing the "lucky" intrinsic
- Receiving the "cursed" intrinsic
- Receiving the "doomed" intrinsic
Note that eating the corpse of a karmic creature is beneficial and works similarly, but in the opposite direction:
- Losing the "doomed" intrinsic
- Losing the "cursed" intrinsic
- Receiving the "lucky" intrinsic
- Receiving the "fate smiles" intrinsic
A comprehensive list of karmic creatures:
- Ancient karmic dragon
- Great karmic wyrm
- Karmic baby dragon
- Karmic dragon
- Karmic lizard
- Sharad-Waador, the ancient karmic wyrm
- The Oracle
- Filk, the quickling bard
Note all but the last two of them have "karmic" in their names, and also a unique ability to change color on each turn, making recognition easy (although a PC might still attack them accidentally if their current color resembles another monster's).
