Quarterstaves are one of the basic types of two-handed melee weapons in ADOM. They belong to the Staves weapon group, and benefit from and train the corresponding weapon skill.

Quarterstaff is also the unidentified form of magic staves, which have a wider range of weights (the majority, however, are 40s).

Desirability[]

Great defensive bonuses from the Staves weapon skill are typically reached only late in the game if the PC focuses on improving this weapon group. In the early game the one-handed melee weapon & shield combination is typically better straight away. However, quarterstaves feature slightly higher damage than most one-handed weapons and can greatly benefit from powerful suffixes and/or prefixes — especially when they are magical.

Guaranteed/Common Sources[]

Quarterstaves can be obtained in the same manner as all generic loot. Non-trollish Wizards and Elementalists may start with the basic wooden variation, while non-trollish Mindcrafters and Monks always start with a wooden quarterstaff.
