Ring of djinni summoning ( = )
Item Type Ring
Artifact? No
Weight 1s
Danger Level 8
Material Adamantium

Rings of djinni summoning are special rings that have no effect whilst worn. When 'U'sed, however, a djinni is summoned; this incurs one of the following effects:

  • If the ring is blessed, he grants the PC a wish and disappears
  • If the ring is uncursed, he becomes the PC's companion
  • If the ring is cursed, he is generated hostile.

If there is no room for the djinni to appear, and there are adjacent monsters, the djinni will strangle or rip apart one of these at random. This instantly kills any affected monster, although most unique monsters are immune to the effect (any monster for which "Nothing happens." when wished for). If the djinni is unable to make room due to a unique monster, the ring will not be used up. Notable monsters that are not immune to strangling: shopkeepers, including the casino shopkeeper, Minotaur emperor, Emperor moloch, and Filk.

Rings of djinni summoning turn into brass rings once used. They often appear as ordinary rings (but not always).

DesirabilityEdit

Means of wishing are extremely desirable for any PC, as long as the player knows how to use them. They are generally the easiest wish granting means to find. Some players may try to generate them by dipping rings in blessed potions of exchange on suitable danger levels.

Even if the PC uses an uncursed ring — if either they forget to bless the ring or not do so intentionally — djinnis still make very respectable companions with their penetrating attacks.

Guaranteed/Common SourcesEdit

They can be generated in the same manner as all generic loot, albeit very rarely. Being sources of wishes, they cannot be wished for.
