The Snake from Beyond is a unique boss monster in ADOM. It carries the Chaos Orb of Elemental Water, which the PC needs in order to complete the game.

As could be expected from the boss of the Water Temple, the Snake from Beyond can swim. It has a strong melee attack, that both corrupts and poisons. It can only attack once per turn, though; and has no ranged attacks. As with all poisonous monsters, it can be stunned with a potion of cure poison. It is immune to poison.

The Snake is generally one of the easier mid-to-late game bosses to beat. PCs experienced in missile combat can easily pick it off from a safe distance using blessed ammo of demon slaying.

Special abilities[]

Common stats[]

Level: 1, DV: 45, PV: 22, Hits: 576, Attacks: 1, Damage: 12-56, Speed: 100.

Corpse effects[]

As a being of true evil, eating the corpse of the Snake from Beyond corrupts (about 1 effect in version 1.1.1; 2 effects in 1.2.0). In 1.2.0, eating the corpse also grants increases of 4 to Dexterity and Mana. These attribute changes are not capped by potential, nor do they depend on your attribute's current value.

Rather than eat the corpse, non-chaotic PCs that can preserve it long enough to take it to Guth'Alak can exchange the corpse with him for a potion of cure corruption.

Monster memory[]

At first appearing to be a huge variety of water snake, this beast is revealed as something corrupted into a horror all its own. Easily twice the size of a water snake, its surface is much denser, perhaps due to its deep-water origin, where it had to endure much greater pressures than in this easy realm. It is fast for its size, attempting to bite if it cannot wrap its victim in its body, drowning and crushing them with its water essence.

Alternative entry:

An immense bloated serpent with a horned head resembling that of a dragon. Its scales are the blue of the deep sea, the greenish translucent white of old ice, the treacherous turquoise of a mountain lake, and many other tones of color. Yet all those colors also contain a hint of some diseased unearthly color which infects the water the snake moves through. You feel that you'll never be able to see a body of water again without those wells of eyes looking back at you.
