Spellbook of Wish ( " )
Item Type Spellbook
Artifact? No
Weight 100s
Danger Level 1
Material N/A

Spellbooks of Wish are, without a doubt, the rarest spellbook (and possibly even the rarest non-artifact item!) in ADOM. The vast majority of games will pass without ever seeing one. However, if found and successfully read, they will grant the player the most potent spell in the game - Wish.

Desirability[]

Most players, even Wizards, will spend the entire game without being able to cast Wish, and will therefore have no use for this book. Moreover, casting Wish as a spell results in a penalty of 10 to randomly chosen attribute—an effect usually much worse than what the player stands to gain from the wish.

However, the spellbook is the critical ingredient to the prospective Archmage.

Guaranteed/Common sources[]

Finding a spellbook of wish is far from an easy task.

Library

The easiest way is to be a Wizard. For Wizards, a spellbook of Wish is almost guaranteed to be found in the Library.

Wishing

If the player can successfully create a Wish engine with rings of djinni summoning, then the player must merely wish for "books" or "spellbooks" until one appears. This is, however, extremely unlikely due to the low chance of a spellbook of Wish being generated—you can wish over a thousand times and find nothing. See the Talk Page for details on testing performed.

Note that wish engines are particularly hard to get going as of ADOM v. 1.2.0[1], making this an extremely tedious method of trying to get a spellbook of Wish.

Other methods

It is possible to find by any (working) loot generation methods, such as shop restocking—particularly effective in the Casino shop. As a wish-granting item, one cannot be wished for directly.

Wizards also have a chance of having one in their starting gear, although this is extremely rare.
