Wands of door creation are wands that, when "z"apped, allow the player to create a door in any of the eight directions.
The door created can either be open, closed, closed and locked, or closed, locked and trapped. The exact odds of a door being created in each of those positions are currently unknown.
Doors may only be created within rooms or dungeons. Zapping the wand at a grass square, for example, will accomplish nothing.
In its unidentified state, the wand of door creation always appears as a glass wand.
Quite high. A large number of doors created by the wand is one of the prerequisites for a common method used to pacify the Big Room. Even later in the game, many monsters might be stumped from pursuit by a locked door, so if you can't find one to hide behind it can be helpful to create it instead.
A wand of door creation can also be used in an exploit-ish manner in D:50 to win the game on without having to kill all the balors.
